The Challenge
The client was developing a crucial device that included components for turret rotation, receivers and barrel mount blocks. The primary challenge involved achieving extremely tight criticality and tolerance levels throughout manufacturing. Previous suppliers failed to consistently meet required tolerances, particularly critical specifications before and after the anodization process. This inconsistency halted final dovetail assembly.
How We Helped
EMUSKI's NPD Center performed extensive research and development focused on the anodization process. The team measured anodization thickness during R&D to understand dimensional impacts. This analysis enabled determination and freezing of precise values for both anodization thickness and component tolerance before final plating, ensuring part integrity throughout production stages.
Outcome
By implementing precise manufacturing and process-control methodology combined with anodization R&D, components were successfully manufactured to achieve zero-zero tolerance mating in final assembly. Production failures were eliminated, enabling reliable delivery of the high-stakes defense device.
